Grass Herbicide

Recommendations

Post-emergent control of grass weeds in and around ground-covers, shrubs and trees in landscape beds, container yards and grower nursery fields.

Provides outstanding post-emergence control of unwanted grasses in groundcovers, shrubs and trees. And the majority of the nearly 500 species and varieties of plants on the label may be treated with Ornamec applied "over-the-top". Some species or varieties of ornamentals require that Ornamec be applied as a directed spray in order to minimize phytotoxicity.

Ornamec takes out unwanted bermudagrass without injury to desirable tall fescue and zoysia turf.

Best time to apply on Zoysia Lawns to get rid of Bermuda
.

Either spring when the Bermuda wakes up or fall before the bermuda goes dormant. Thats the way it is for my cool-season tall fescue. Zoysia may be different cause the Ornamec puts a lot of stress on the lawn. It may be better just in the spring for you because the Zoysia has strong growth when it gets hot late spring and summer. I was impressed how well the Ornamec killed the Bermuda.

Where can Ornamec be used? Examples include: Evergreen and wildflower beds to remove unsightly grass. Groundcovers to maintain immaculate appearance. Nurseries to remove grass in the field-grown woody ornamentals.

There are over 30 grass species listed on the label. Youll find many common types of unwanted annual grasses: crabgrass, barnyardgrass, goosegrass, foxtails, sandbur, panicums. Also, few herbicides are as effective as Ornamec against hard-to-control perennial grasses. Quackgrass, bermudagrass and torpedograss are examples. Another is Johnsongrass which is controlled in both rhizome and seedling stages.

Broadleaf weeds, sedges, rushes, lilies, and other non-grass weeds will not be controlled.

  • Apply as a postemergent in and around ornamentals to control annual grasses crabgrass, barnyardgrass, goosegrass, foxtails, sandbur, and panicums.
  • Also controls perennial grasses such as quackgrass, bermudagrass, torpedograss and Johnsongrass.
  • For over-the-top applications on most ornamentals shrubs, groundcovers, trees, flowers, and wildflowers listed on the label.
  • May be used on and around newly-emerging ornamentals, as well as transplants.
  • The active ingredient of Ornamec is translocated to the growing points and destroys the shoots, roots, rhizomes, and stolons of the listed grasses.
  • Fast acting: treated grass ceases growth usually within 48 hours. Death occurs within one to three weeks, depending on grass weed species and environmental conditions.
  • Rain-fast one hour after application.
  • Labeled for the removal of bermudagrass from zoysia and tall fescue turf.

St. Gabriel Moss Killer is made from plant oils. It removes moss build-up on brick patios, sidewalks, etc.

For best results, apply MOSS KILLER just prior to the time when fall rains begin or in early spring. Moss growth can occur in nearly any location where dampness persists. Such areas include decks, steps, patios and fences. Moisture is essential for moss growth, therefore, most moss growth appears during the fall; some occurs in the winter and spring. Very little moss forms in summertime. Controlling moss may add months or years of service to decks, fences, steps amd such areas, and can keep walkways and steps from becoming slippery and dangerous. Destroying existing moss is done most effectively during times when its growth is most rapid and when rain is not expected for several days.

St. Gabriel Moss Killer Concentrate:Fill the spray tank 1/2 full with water and start agitation system if applicable. Add the desired amount of Moss Killer concentrate at a 3:1 mixing ratio. (Three parts water to one part Moss Killer)

Once in suspension, occasional agitation is recommended for best results.

BROADCAST APPLICATIONS: Spray Moss Killer to run-off using tank or backpack sprayers, typically 35-75 gallons of spray solution per acre.

BAND APPLICATIONS: Using trigger sprayers, cover moss, as needed, typically 25-50 gallons of spray solution per acre.

    Annual Blue Grass Killer.

Bermuda - Removing Fescue in Summer out of Bermuda

Q: My back lawn was originally seeded with fescue and the front lawn was sodded with bermudagrass. Over the years bermudagrass has spread through the back yard. At this point I think that if I could get rid of the fescue, I'd have a pretty decent bermudagrass lawn in the back. Is this feasible?
A: Imazaquin> (Image for nutgrass control) is labeled for situations where you want to kill tall fescue in a bermudagrass lawn.

It is safe to use after bermudagrass has completely greened-up. Since the chemical is absorbed by fescue roots, water thoroughly after application. It will take a couple of weeks to see any damage at all. Do a repeat application six weeks after the first one.

Thanks To Walter Reeves for this article above.
    www.walterreeves.com

With a couple of summer fertilizations, the fescue should be gone and the bermudagrass should have filled its place by fall.

    SedgeHammer.jpg
SedgeHammer herbicide knocks out nutsedge without injury to turfgrass, established ornamentals, shrubs, and/or trees. SedgeHammer provides post-emergence control of both purple and yellow nutsedge. SedgeHammer also controls many broadleaf weeds and suppresses kylling. A low use rate and a relatively short half life mean safety to the environment.

    Application Considerations:
    • May be tank mixed with Glyphosate herbicide for application as a directed spray in landscaped or fallow areas
    • Use only nonionic surfactants such as De-Fac 820 with SedgeHammer that contain at least 80% active material
    • Best results are obtained with no rainfall or irrigation for at least 4 hours
    Good Agricultural Practices:
    • Calibrate application equipment prior to application
    • For optimum results, do not mow turf for 2 days before or 2 days after application
    Uses for SEDGEHAMMER:
Turfgrass, Bahiagrass, Bentgrass, Bermudagrass, Centipedegrass, Fine Fescue, Tall Fescue, Kentucky Bluegrass, Kikuyugrass, Ryegrass, perennial
    Seashore paspalum, St. Augustinegrass, Zoysiagrass

    All States

SedgeHammer (formally Manage herbicide), is the Best product we have found to control nutsedge. SedgeHammer is labeled for use in all 50 of the United States. Labeling laws prevent us from selling SedgeHammer (Manage) outside of the US.

SedgeHammer (Manage) CANNOT be used in vegetable gardens. SedgeHammer (Manage) maybe used as a 'directed spray' around ornamentals which is lawyer-speak for 'if the plant dies, it ain't our fault". So be careful around ornamentals. The label calls for the use of a non-ionic surfactant, which means to add some Dawn Detergent to help the Manage get into the plant.

The first application of SedgeHamer (Manage) will control up to 95% of the existing nutsedge. Because nutsedge spreads underground by tubers and 'nuts', and above ground by seed it will be necessary to make multiple applications to totally contol the weed. Nutsedge thrives in wet soils, so reducing the frequency of watering with your irrigation system will help control the spread of nutsedge. In addition, we have a theory that for every ton of top soil you apply to your lawn, you are planting at least 500 pounds of weed seeds. Try to avoid bringing in top soil unless absolutely necessary. We also recommend that you not roto-till your lawn. Weed seeds can lie dormant in the soil for years (crabgrass seeds have been known to live 15 years in the soil) until brought to the surface so they can germinate.

SedgeHammer is packaged in a .9 gram water soluble bag that treats up to 1,000 square feet.

Contains one pack 0.9 grams. Makes one gallon of spray. Must add 2 talblespoons on a nonionic surfactant. Mix or shake for a least two minutes. Occasionally shake while spraying. Treat 1000 sq ft.

A second treatment may be required 6 to 10 weeks after the initial treatment. As a sequential treatment, when new purple or yellow nutsedge plants have reached the 3 to 8 leaf stage of growth, apply 2/3 to 1 1/3 ounces by weight of this product per acre (0.031 to 0.062 pound active ingredient per acre). Use the lower rate in light infestations and the higher rate in heavy infestations. No more than 4 applications can be made with the total use rate not exceeding 5 1/3 ounces by weight of this product (0.25 pounds active ingredient) per acre per use season.
Use 0.25-0.5 percent v/v of a nonionic surfactant (1-2 quarts per 100 gallons of spray solution) for broadcast applications. For high volume applications, DO NOT exceed 1 quart of surfactant per acre. Use only nonionic surfactants that contain at least 80 percent active material.

Spot Treatments:Mix 0.9 gram of this product in one or two gallons of water to treat 1000 square feet. Add 2 teaspoons (1/3 fluid ounce) of nonionic surfactant per gallon of water.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WATER DISPERSIBLE GRANULE IN 1.3 OUNCE BOTTLE: Mix 0.9 gram of this product (using the measuring scoop provided) in one or two gallons of water to treat 1000 square feet. Add 2 teaspoons (1/3 fluid ounce) of nonionic surfactant per gallon of water. Ensure the product is measured as a level scoop and not rounded.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WATER DISPERSIBLE GRANULE PREMEASURED IN WATER SOLUBLE BAG: Add one (1) water-soluble bag of this product per one or two gallons of water in a hand-held or backpack sprayer to treat 1000 square feet. Add 2 teaspoons (1/3 fluid ounce) of a nonionic surfactant per gallon of spray solution. Mix or shake thoroughly for at least two minutes to ensure that the watersoluble bag and ingredients are completely dispersed.

Occasionally shake the spray solution while spraying to ensure that it remains thoroughly mixed. Spray the target weeds thoroughly and wet the entire leaf surface of the undesirable plants.

DO NOT exceed the recommended amount of surfactant due to the potential for turf injury at higher rates. Refer to the surfactant label and observe all precautions, mixing and application instructions.

Wondering how to get Fescue out of Bermuda, St. Augustine and Centipede?

In Bermuda grass, you need to spray in the winter when the Bermuda is dormant (that is, brown)! Do not spray when it is green. You can spray Centipede and St. Augustine during both the dormant and growing seasons. Best results are achieved when the weeds or grass are small or have not emerged. Use the herbicide Atrazine, which also controls henbit, clover, chickweed, sandspur, crabgrass and many more. Follow the instructions on the label. One tablespoon treats 500 sq. ft.

    TrimecSouthern.jpg
    Broadleaf Herbicide

Recommendations: For post-emergent clover, chickweed and other broadleaf weed control, especially in sensitive warm-season turfgrass areas on golf courses, residential and commercial lawns, sports turf and park and recreation areas.

Trimec Southern is designed for high tolerance in sensitive southern turfgrasses. But that doesn't mean it won't control tough weeds anywhere else. In fact, recent research has shown that Trimec Southern is the most effective amine Trimec complex for clover control, equaled only by our Super Trimec ester product.

Trimec Southern is formulated with less 2,4-D to accommodate sensitive warm-season grasses, and higher in MCPP to maintain the quality performance you expect from a Trimec complex. This slight adjustment in formulation is the optimum ratio for knocking out clover. So Trimec Southern isn't just for the south, it's for tough weed control anywhere, especially where clover or chickweed is the primary target.

Trimec Southern is labeled for use on cool-season bluegrass and fescues as well as bermudagrass, bentgrass zoysiagrass, centipedegrass and St. Augustinegrass
    • High degree of tolerance in sensitive warm-season turfgrasses.
    • Wide spectrum broadleaf weed control.
    • Economical clover control option — North or South.
    • Best amine Trimec complex for clover and chickweed.
